This month we interviewed Mario Dentone, novelist, playwright and assistant professor of G. Corsinovi, chair of the creative writing class. Intrigued by its troubled history and passion for literature, we asked him to give you all some advice for those wishing to enter the world of writing or for those interested in comprendere come avviene la ricerca e la stesura di un testo.
Tant'è Admittedly, even if the Italian accountancy was on the second floor, was postponed to September each year. Until last year, when, thanks to the insight of a senior professor, I discovered my true passion: literature, Italian language, writing. Do not his university studies because then went on an accountant could not enroll in the humanities, and when I could do now was married and had a family.
At some point in his life began to devote himself exclusively to literature and writing. As has been immersed in this world? He expected to be successful or wrote just for the sake of culture?
He writes for the love of culture, but you always dreamed of having a cover in a display library or a court of readers to see their name in the papers or your face on television, hear the ringing telephone requests for interviews, and so on. E 'hypocritical to say no, I do not think, I write for myself ...
The world of literature is, as every world in every field, made up of small cliques of power and large caste, friends of friends of friends who argue with each other, making the dam new entry and interference. I do not know how far I am part, I only know, and I can declare, di non aver mai chiesto aiuto se non ai miei scritti, ai miei sacrifici, e chi mi è stato vicino lo può testimoniare.
To her I have to admit that he saw in my first opera, dedicated to Paganini, the conditions of a natural tension to dramatic writing, she being an expert in theatrical literature, encouraging me to continue on this road, next to my first task of the narrator. But I had already published three novels behind.
Can you tell us briefly how is the preparation of his work? (The choice of the documents, early drafts etc ...)
All the authors are large, all authors are points of reference for a writer, as well as a writer, there are always those authors and books about those who can not do without, systematically and regularly, never tired, never bored, come back, and in my case I appoint Cesare Pavese, Marcel Proust, Luigi Pirandello, and one of the greatest writers and intellectuals today, and also great good friend, Claudio Magris ... But then again, I could list dozens and dozens of other key authors ...
What advice would you give to young students who want to write and engage with the world of fiction or theater and, perhaps, some would be known around?
Tips? One in particular: if you really believe in it, feel it, do not give up, because it falls, delusions, as they say, nasate, or captain in the hundreds, every day. Shake your shoulders, face, and get back to the table, e. .. read, read, read, before they write ... I have had hundreds, I mean hundreds, of waste for publishing my novels ... I never gave up, always with confidence and stubbornness are broken, and even at this every day allotment.
